Remploy called us in as they were undergoing a reception area refurbishment at their head office based at Meridian Business Park in Leicester.

Remploy exists to improve the lives of disabled people and those with complex needs through the power of work; they needed their reception area to reflect their business objectives by being a welcoming, inviting and easily accessible place for all. They had a more wheelchair friendly entrance ramp installed as part of their refurbishment scheme and called us in to help advise on a more user friendly and practical reception desk.

We got together a few reception desk ideas for Remploy and talked through the various options with them. Space was reasonably tight within the reception area and the desk was to be placed between the main entrance doors and an internal lift within in a high footfall area. After looking through and discussing our various reception area proposals, Remploy opted for a Clarke Rendall bespoke reception desk. This enabled us to get the most from the space available as the desk could be made-to-measure enabling every inch available to be used to its full potential.

`` Leicester Office Furnishers were great in offering us different solutions for our new reception desk, they came up with ideas that we had never thought of and introduced us to some great products! They really helped guide us and enable us to meet our objective of offering a more user friendly, professional and inviting entrance to our head office.``

The desk was made with a smooth curve to the front, designed perfectly to fit within the two walls we were joining to. To enable the receptionist to get behind the desk we had a flap and gate integrated into the front curve design, which kept the reception area secure but still enabled easy access. The flap and gate also doubled as a DDA section for wheelchair users so, the gate was recessed allowing wheelchairs to pull underneath the desk and once the flap was down (which it always is unless someone is in the process of going in/out from behind the reception desk) it was at standard desk height enabling wheelchair users to either use the worksurface for signing in/out etc or for an easier view of the receptionist they were talking to.

The Clarke Rendall reception desk was finished in a beech real wood veneer with glass countertop to the top section and a lit front logo section to the front. Behind the reception desk we included an integrated double door cupboard with internal shelf and integrated lockable pedestal unit.

“We are so pleased with how our new reception desk has transformed our reception area, it creates such a professional, welcoming first impression of Remploy. It is also so much more practical than what we were using before, with the DDA section, built-in storage units and we find the flap and gate access a real bonus, as our reception desk was all open at the side before which wasn’t ideal.
